Jake in San Diego: Any scoop on Doomsday from Smallville?
Looks like Davis Bloome aka Doomsday is forming quite an interesting relationship with one Miss Lois Lane! Sources tell me the first time we meet Davis is when he is attempting to pick up Lois at Ace of Clubs. Still, don't expect things to get too steamy between the couple—I'm also hearing that Davis Bloome is something of a Jekyll and Hyde.

Tanya in Kalamazoo, Mich.: Give me some Clois scoop, please!
Could it finally be happening now that Lana is out of the picture?! I'm hearing that during a conversation Lois admits that she is constantly thinking about a man who is described as "confusing, mysterious and oddly sexy." Huh! I don't know about you, but those words definitely scream Clark Kent to me!

Some Season 8 Snippets

It is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest shots; whether or not they will be successful at getting him remains to be seen.
- If Laura Vandervoort does not return as a series regular, it is likely that Kara will remain in the Phantom Zone until she can be rescued.
- Phil Morris may be returning as the Martian Manhunter in Season 8, and James Marsters has expressed interest in more appearances as Brainiac.

Allison Mack (Chloe) Will Return Next Season

Smallville fans, consider this bullet officially dodged: Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that after weeks of tense negotiations, Allison Mack has sealed a deal to return next season as a series regular!

[The crowd roars]

Although the specifics of the new contract -- which was signed just hours ago -- are being kept under wraps, I'm told it calls for Mack to appear in all episodes produced next season. As I reported earlier this week, the actress' reps were (wisely) using the imminent departure of Smallville vet Michael Rosenbaum as leverage in the negotiations. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the strategy paid off.

Question: I read your story about Allison Mack possibly not re-signing for Smallville next season. What's the latest? — Marta

Ausiello: Talks are still at a stand-still. That's the bad news. The good news is that production doesn't resume until July, so the situation isn’t all that dire… yet. One Smallville insider speculates that Mack may ultimately take a page from co-star Kristin Kreuk's book and return for only a handful of episodes. It's not ideal, but it certainly beats the alternative: no Chloe at all. BTW, many of you have written in asking whether you should read anything into the fact the CW, in its upfront press release yesterday, left Mack's name off the Smallville's cast list, and the answer is, well, let's ask the CW: "We are in talks with her," responds a network rep. "Hopefully she will return next season."

Question: Any additional info on the casting of Doomsday or the new female villain on Smallville? — Eric

It looks like Smallville's about to take another, potentially lethal, hit.

Just a week after it was announced that Michael Rosenbaum would not be returning full time as Lex next season, sources confirm to me exclusively that Allison Mack, arguably Smallville's most popular heroine, may be the next to go.

This marks quite a turnaround from a few months ago, when I deemed Mack a lock to come back next season. And I wasn't the only one. Although a deal wasn't signed at the time, Smallville insiders tell me that all indications were that the actress was on board for Season 8.

But then Rosenbaum terndered his resignation and everything fell apart.

"Allison's camp used Michael leaving as leverage in the negotiations with [Warner Bros.]," says one Smallville source, who adds that Kristin Kreuk's decision to only return for a handful of episodes as Lana only strengthened Mack's bargaining position. "They need Chloe now more than ever — and Allison's …

Smallville Execs Thank Star for Lex Appeal, Tease Doomsday's Arrival

A joint statement from Smallville's new quartet of show runners, the CW and Warner Bros. Television pays proper due to Michael Rosenbaum, who won't be returning next season as a series regular. "It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Michael. He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode," says the missive. "While... we won’t have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we haven’t seen the last of Lex Luthor. Stay tuned." (In comments: Michael Rosenbaum's letter to fans and friends.)

The Smallville bosses go on to tease a new breed of villainy for Season 8, including the arrival of Doomsday, "the legendary, unstoppable destroyer" who will present Clark with "his ultimate challenge." (Doomsday, of course, is the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.)

Also to be cast for S8…

Smallville Season 8 Spoilers

Source: Comics Continuum
Big changes continue for Season 8 of Smallville. The CW has informed The Continuum that Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor, is leaving the series as a regular and that next season will include two new villains.

The new villains will be Doomsday from the Superman comic books and "a female antagonist who will challenge Clark in ways never before imagined. "

Casting is underway for both roles.

Here's how the network describes the new villains:

* Doomsday: "In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on Smallville for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman."

*Female villain: "Doomsday won't be Clark's only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but …
