Smallville Renewed for 9th Season

THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS OF SERIES

“Gossip Girl,” “One Tree Hill,” “90210,” “America’s Next Top Model,” “Smallville” and “Supernatural” To Return Next Season

February 24, 2009 (Burbank, California) ─ The CW announced today the early pickups of six series, including five of the network’s signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which will all return in Fall 2009.

“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, The CW. “By securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”

Among the series receiving early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday tandem of sophomore sensation GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL, which combined to lift The CW to become the fall’s #1 network on Monday with women 18-34. Both GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL have scored double-digit gains compared to their previous seasons. Freshman hit 90210 has improved the network’s Tuesday night by double-digit increases in key demos. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which consistently wins its time period with young women, will also be back with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models for cycles 13 and 14.

Also renewed were the network’s established Thursday team of SMALLVILLE, in its ninth season, and SUPERNATURAL, which after posting ratings growth this season, will enter its fifth season next year.

  1. Hell yes, I'm excited! Bring on the Clois, baby!

  2. I'm not sure. I just started rewatching this year. I love Clark (and one Tom Welling). I stopped watching because of Lana though so as long as she doesn't keep making multi-episode story archs then I'm okay with the way this show has been going.

  3. Absolutely!!But Erica Durance must be in 22 episodes!! Bring in the JLA, Injustice League, Intergang, John Jones, Jimmy,... I would like to see Chloe, Tess and Davis too but their fate seems uncertain. A guest appearance of Annette O'Toole would be fantastic too, Martha seems to have vanished off the face of the earth since season 7 but Clark and her mother were so close and touching that it doesn't make sense for Clark to not see her and not even speak about her. Oh, and more Shelby too! After all it is Lois who brought him to the Kent farm and he likes Lois...Like owner, like dog!

  4. If season 9 continues they way the start of season 8 was (before the horrible Lana arc) then I can't wait. I'm looking forward to seeing Clark become a grown man and accept his responsibilites, and to see him and Lois fall in love and chase stories at the Daily Planet. They better have Erica Durance for all 22 episodes. Season 9 could be great.

  5. I'm excited to see what happens but this will give them another reason to drag out the Lois and Clark relationship :( I do think it would be fun if Clark would start flying like Kara was able to!!

  6. NOOOOOOOOO!
More lame repetitive, recycled stolryines with forced clois drama!

Why is tom so stupid to renew his contracts? I wonder how much $$ they offered him.

  7. Great! Now sign up Erica Durance for all 22 episodes and I'll be one happy camper.

  8. I love Smallville and all, but I'm not really sure how I feel about a ninth season. :\

  9. Only if they bring back Kara fulltime.

  10. That's the best news I've heard today. The only news that can be better than this is that they've signed Erica Durance for 22 episodes. We need more storylines with Lois and Clark. Lois brings out the best in Clark and when they team up, the show is awesome. Please no more crappy episodes like "Abyss" and "Requiem". We need full season of Lois and Clark awesomeness!!

  11. yes bring on clois for alll 22 episodes as its been a long time coming, lets have a season that blows the away the clana seasons.

  12. Great news!

    -Erica Durance for 18 episodes.
    -Perry White for 8-10 episodes.
-Annette O'Toole to make a guest appearance.
-Michael Rosenbaum for the last 5 episodes of the Series.
-Bring Lana back for an episode and have Clark shut her down and tell her they are no more.

  13. As long as Lana is not coming back I am all for it. They need to continue what they've done so far in season 8 minus the Lana arc, and WHATEVER they do...don't make season 9 an excuse to make Clark not fly for the rest of this year.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So I guess "Privileged" is not going to be renewed!I'm glad One Tree Hill is and 90210 but what about the actors of One Tree Hill? Are they ALL coming back?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wasn't prepared to say goodbye to Erica Durance and her Lois Lane yet, so this is good news. What would make it great? Confirmation of Erica's being on the show full-time next year. I hope that comes soon.

    ReplyDelete
  16. YES YES YES!!! Tom Welling as the REAL Clark Kent!!! PURE WIN!!! Clark at the DP, maybe flying, investigating stories, saving people regularly, dealing with a dual identity -- absolutely wonderful! Man Clark, not emo boy.

And WHEN Erica gets 22 episodes -- things will be as they always should have been.

    The mythos will be onscreen!!!

  21. aaaahhh!!!!! Please, NO MORE CHLOE!!!! Kill her off already! I'm so tired of her having the female lead in this show.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i wanna see more KARA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. bring on Imperiex

    ReplyDelete
  24. FU! more CHLOE AND DAVIS....Of COURSE CLARK, BUT NO lOIS WHAT A WHORE!

    ReplyDelete
  25. yeah chloe needs to go. played out and her ep's are so uninteresting. give her the ax.

and yeah, supergirl needs to come back. maybe the writing team can fix all the damage they did to her.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Like it or no CHLOE IS the female lead. She has a pretty big fanbase and dropping her will drop Sv's ratings like a fly. Most of us true fans who has been here since season 1 are still watching the show for Chloe. Lets hope they give Chloe and Clark and the JLA some more screen time and reduce the screentime of minor characters like Lois, jimmy,Davis etc..

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wanna see DOOMSDAY kill Chloe off. That would be really cool. It would be sad to see Lois and Clark suffer the loss of her death but its waaaaayyyyyyyyy time for her to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh that is so crap.. just because some fans haven't watched from the beginning, doesn't mean we aren't true fans, and you peeps need to get over that crap. Look at the ratings this year.. and this is with Lana AND Lex both gone, the REAL 2 of the BIG THREE... I highly doubt losing Allison would change much LOL. Lois has been around more than HALF the shows run now, so I think you can take the high and mighty 'tude and shove it. And Chloe having a big fanbase? Well I guess them bigwords are nice and dandy in the 'internet world' but you don't know how big a fanbase the other millions of viewers make for her character, but I bet it isn't that much.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh so Lois is a whore, yet Chloe is married and you're rooting for her and Davis, Clark's future killer.. that makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  30. tt, more forced Clois? Maybe you didn't see the interview with the director for Committed where Tom went up to him and the writer of the episode and actually TOLD them he liked the script for Committed? Which was Clois-heavy.. he said there wasn't just stuff in there for the sake of being in there (you know, like the old annual Chlark kisses just to please fans), it actually moved the story along.. so if Tom did sign on, its obvious its cause he has better taste in the stories than you do.
