3. This episode was the final straw. I'm done with this show.

4. why superman? it was not that bad????

5. Requiem was the absolute worst episode ever on Smallville and completely degrading to Clark and to mythos. Lana is not the love of Clark's life and for her to be portrayed that way simply made me crazy. Instead of her going off with them having closure, having them realize they are not meant to be, she goes off like they'll always be in love? Uh, no. Not right. She is not his true love, never was. It was absolutely ridiculous, humiliating to watch, and I was disgusted. Bad bad bad.

7. I just saw tonight's episodes and I have to say I am really surprised...

No, don't get me wrong. Not surprised in a good way. I mean, I couldn't believe I was seeing before my eyes the fall of one of my favorite shows.

I have NO idea how DC Comics allowed the writers and producers to show this arc. In what world, does Lois Lane comes as sloppy seconds of Clark Kent!?

Season 8 started so well! We saw Clark on his way to become the superhero wee all know and love and his relationship and dynamic with Lois began to evolve and tranform little by little in the beggining of a courtship. Then came the "Lana arc" and everything went down the drain. Clark became the whiny, castrated, inmature, selfish teen boy that we have see for 7 seasons. And you go and give Lana an "heroic sendoff" at the EXPENSE of the main character of your show! How could THIS CLARK KENT even become a love interest for Lois Lane? She is the only loyal, smart, mature, and honest character of the show, and you ship her off for more than 3 months!

This whole thing has been an insult to the fans of the show, of Erica Durance and of Tom Welling. It is not fun to see your favorite character be emasculated by a character who doesn't have any importance in the show anymore and is not even coming back!!

You know, after this episode was over I heard people say, Clark settles for Lois. In reality,

Lois Lane settles for Clark Kent. Bceause he will NEVER be her equal, even with all his powers.

Great job guys, you have managed to ruin 70 years of history, one of the most epic love stories and during so, you have managed to lost probably half of your audience. Well done.

8. What did I just watch? I didn't think anything could be worse than last week's and yet - it WAS.

There was nothing redeeming about this episode. I'm done with Smallville for good.

ReplyDelete
9. The one, singular thing that was the shining moment for me was that it was Lana's last episode. Never again will I have to watch her on this show again. Now I have to look forward to the idiot writer's.

10. I'm surprised about some of the negative reviews from tonight's episode. It closed the chapter on Clark and Lana's story for good, and I thought it was better than expected. After reading some of the spoilers for upcoming episodes, I'm really looking forward to seeing the Clark and Lois interaction now.

11. Who is superhero Lana Or Clark! Sad Sad Sad!!!

12. I freaking adored this episode not because of it as a whole seeing as how the episode was kind of boring but okay I am not a huge Clark & Lana fan yet this episode made me like them it was sooooo sad I cried for like 10 minutes it was sooo cute I don't know it just showed you how they cared for each other on this episode, but at the same time I am so glad that Lana is gone lets get CLOIS rolling man!!! Whooo can't wait till March 5th!!!!

ReplyDelete
13. Wow the people that are saying they are going to stop watching YOU TRULY AREN'T A FAN!!!!! Just because of that it's nothing!! I really don't care for Lana but now that she is gone it's over I liked there ending it was a good one it was sad & romantic at the same time Kristin got exactly what she needed a BEAUTIFUL SENDOFF!! You guys are just mad because your bitter stop complaining if you don't want to watch the show Then Don't! it's that simple but for you to bash so much & whine the way you guys is actually really sad & it disgusts me as a fan of the show! I hope the writers/actors ect don't come on here & read this that would be sad

14. The actors, producers, showrunners and the LAZY writers should be ashamed to read the reactions their work is producing. Talk about a blemish on the Superman mythos. The FX and music in Lois and Clark were cheesy but Clark Kent was never a weak sniveling groveling twit.I can't believe this was the best they could come up with as the way to send Lana off into the world. Super Lana to the rescue! Blecchhh....So glad I skipped the epi live, downloaded it later and watched BONES instead. I will be waiting for Lois to return. I hope she has some cool stories of her own in the last episodes. If the season ends this spring- that is fine with me.

ReplyDelete
15. The storyline of the episode would be good, if Clark hadn't been the only character not to behave like an hero, right the one who is supposed to become Superman. Even Lana, who I usually hate, has been a real hero.
On the Daily Planet roof she made the decision, while Clark saw palely...

However to not be disappointed by the show, I suggest everyone to stop thinking that Smallville is about Superman. It has only the same characters names, for the rest it is totally different. Fortunately, Lois is coming back!!!

What about Lex? Is he really dead? or I would say "did they really killed him off?"

17. I have to say I agree with the majority of posters. I have watched this show from the beginning because I like Superman, and the writers obviously have no respect for the character after what they did last night. I will continue to watch the show, but for the die-hard lore-nerds I completely understand their frustration even if they decide to stop watching.

Lois Lane was NOT Clark's 2nd pick.

ReplyDelete
18. I don't care what happened. I just want my Lois and Clark back. Bring on March!

ReplyDelete
19. I am so relieved that I am not the only one who feels this way.

For me, these last 4 episodes ruined all hope I had. And the so called last epi of The Lang, (cough-hack-gag) I'll believe that when I see it.

Well, they officially did it, Lois Lane will always be remembered to this generation who grew up watching Smallville, as the woman that Superman and Clark Kent settled for. She will always be known as the one who got Superman by default and rebound.

I do NOT want to see this Lois Lane ever get with this pitiful, pathetic, prideless, spineless, emasculated Clark Kent or Red and Blue Blur. There is in no way enough time for the show to allow time to pass to where he will ever be over The Lang in order to be at peace with himself and then to eventually fall in love with another.
I NEVER imagined me saying this after the stellar first half of season 8 but they need to officially now end the show. I am so disgusted at how they spat all over these characters all for their obsession with KK. I no longer have any interest in seeing what they plan to do to redeem themselves with how they ended those two last night. It's time to remove it from my DVR schedule of recordings. I think I may even change my IMDb signature to...How could DC and WB allow the writers of Smallville to spat all over these characters and their iconic history?

I can hear it already in years to come...
Hey, you are not going to believe this.
What?! What is it?
Guess who the heck Superman is with and ends up marrying!?
Who?
That chick from the Daily Planet that he works with!
No! Are you serious?!
I shet you not!
Her??? Dang man, that's beat.
Well, I guess we can't have it all. He might as well settle for her. But that's okay, we all know she's sloppy seconds, second choice and he got with her by default, you know, the rebound chick since he can't be with his true love.

20. Oh, I cried alright at the end of the episode. It was heart wrenching having to see the way PS3 treated Clark's character. This Lana arc was the most pathetic storyline I've ever seen on a show. I'm just glad Lois and Jimmy weren't part of it because EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER was sacrificed at the altar of perfect, hero Lana.
Speaking of, bye bye Miss Lang, don't let the door it you on your way out.

ReplyDelete
21. They butchered the whole thing; they tainted not only Clark but Olliver, Chloe and Lana as well. Not a good thing to say about this episode, they transformed this in a soap opera.

Hated the episode, hated the fact that Lana is still superpowered and most of all, hated the fact that Clark is now a brainless weak tool.

ReplyDelete
22. I do think that it wasn't the best episode, but at least now Lana's gone and Clark and Lois can start their relationship. And where has Lois been the last couple episodes anyway?!

ReplyDelete
23. The writers absolutley butchered the last three episodes. It's because Clark being the dumb alien he is being all ga ga over Lana again. I thought he was going to start to pull away from her and stop being a crybaby about it. Now I don't want him to go with Lois because it wouldn't make sense if he is torn up about Lana. The first 10 episodes were great and now they completely ruined my liking for this season. I'm just glad Lana is gone - that's the only reason I'm giving it one last chance. Clark's supposed growth in the first 10 episodes were all for nothing.

25. I hope you are happy. You managed to do what even the devil himself couldn't do: you killed Clark Kent and by default, Superman. This pathetic excuse for a man you write can never, ever become the Man of Steel, because he lacks the principles, the heart and the brains to do so.

And, not satisfied by that, you went ahead and killed another superhero, Green Arrow; the founder of The JL is now a cold blooded killer who has no remorse and doesn't give a damn if he has to blame someone to save his behind.

WTF are you thinking? Are you guys that stupid or you just chose to not look at monumental fail you created? You took a good show and turned it into a melodramatic soap opera called As The World Turns Around Lana.

Congratulations, I hope you are happy. The prize for worst writers ever goes to all of you. YOU SUCK.

27. WOW... You guys really don´t care about the show, the story of THIS show. You spend your time mocking the relationships - well actually just one.
That is sooo annoying - I can´t even read the comments anymore... You´re worse that the shippers on "Lost" for god´s sake...
Now I never knew the mythology of Superman from the comics or the movies, but if Lois is his true love, I guess we´ll get there...
I thought "Requem" was amazing (as most of the episodes). I cried my eyes out at the end and Kristin was right ... it was a beautiful sendoff

28. Oops, they did it again. Explain to me the aura that is Blahna that makes writers/producers quell with excitement over her presence. What is this obsession with this dust mite on the radar of the Superman mythos?

Okay, enough. Come out of hiding and take it like men/women -- you screwed up royally. You've detracted from an neverending story. Who knew it was possible? Own up to your mistakes and tell us how you're going to rectify this.

Making every character have killer hearts except Blahna -- bad move. Really bad move. She's always been Clark's green kryptonite -- but she shouldn't infect Green Arrow or Chloe.

Pissing off Clark Kent's fans is not good. I know Goughlar had low opinions of us ... ACTION any one? And yea the mythos is like crack so that makes us crackheads -- we'll just keep coming back for more. Not so. Crackheads get violent when they don't get what they want. We'll go find another dealer. That spells lost revenue . . . unfamiliar with the term -- go ask your boss.

So if you're smart, you'll cough up the goods, PS3. Show us your stuff. You had a great beginning of the season and this trip down Blahna avenue just makes you look HORRENDOUSLY bad. Was that on purpose? Because it seemed like you threw every piece of garbage idea you had and put it into this arc. And who suffers? Clark Kent, your hero. His fans. The people who watch your show and buy your advertisers products. Shame on you.

Well the witch is gone (let's hope she stays in some alternative universe somewhere) so let's get goin with the real show and real season you promised. Let's move on! Let's see that sparkle in Clark's eye again. We want to see that Kent smile and want him to become a MAN!!! Because his story is a story of hope, not tragedy. He inspires, not depresses. Get goin! chop chop!

LOL
I love this post.
But seriously, please stop moaning, by ending it this way, Clark knows he has no future with Lana, no matter what.
So he will go back to saving people etc.
And as he gets over Lana, he'll begin to feel for Lois in the same way as he did in Bride.
So please get over yourselves, and just wait to see where the writers take this, could be you end up loving what they do

31. Dear Smallville showrunners,

Congratulations on completing the Lana Lang story arc, otherwise known as the apotheosis of Lana Lang. I assume Requiem was the series finale. After all, why continue with the show when the world clearly has a Superwoman in Lana Lang? Who needs Superman when Lana already has all his abilities and a superior set of morals to boot?

Thank you for showing how Lana mastered being a superhero during her 5 episode stint. You made me realize that Clark Kent is an imbecile for having had to take 8 seasons and counting to even approach Lana's level. I also loved how you showed that Lana is morally superior to the Green Arrow. He is only a mere mortal, and Superwoman is above all mortals.

In case you're wondering...yes, I'm being sarcastic except for in this following statement. You suck.

ReplyDelete
32. i am a lana hate but i tought she deserved a beautiful sendoff because the actress was on the show for 7 1/2 years and i think that needs something. But i am a Clois fan and i didnt like how they portryed clark it wasn't lana who was the problem it was clark

ReplyDelete
33. We LOVED it because we know that Lana is GONE for good.... it was AWFUL because she was in it! It was GREAT to see her leave... It was Ok to see Oliver hurt because he had his shirt off... It was POOR that we had to see Clark without his shirt because he was with Lana.

34. A letter to Smallville writers...
I thought that Smallville was about how Clark Kent becomes Superman. You know, that hero from that comic books that wears a cape and fights for truth, justice and the American way? For years Superman fans have been waiting for that iconic hero to appear. Finally, after 7 LONG seasons of Clark's whining about his abilities and a pathetic obsession with Lana, the Superman we knew and loved began to appear at the beginning of season 8. It seemed the wait was finally worth it.

Apparently that was all a joke. The last four episodes have us right back where we left in season 7, with a pathetic Clark Kent who cares more about his high school girlfriend than living his true destiny. You have mocked Superman's iconic storyline for so long that those of us who actually cared about the character have given up hope. Nicely done! You killed Superman more neatly than Doomsday ever could!

Not only is Superman dead, but with this latest Lana Lang episode you took the iconic love between Clark Kent and Lois Lane and made it Clark's "second choice," thereby also killing the Lois Lane character and any meaning she could have in Clark's life. This is a complete contradiction of canon...Lois Lane helps Clark accept his destiny and her love makes him Superman. She never was and never should be his "second choice."

It was a slap in the face to true Superman fans who have remained loyal to your show all these years to instead have Lana Lang do just the opposite... leave Clark on his knees, a pathetic love stricken boy who carries not even the shadow of a hero. What a waste.

ReplyDelete
35. omg, all this time-it finally occured to me...smallville wasnt about clark kent...its about LANA LANG.
i'm embarassed for the clark and lois the world has known and lvoed for over 75years.

ReplyDelete
36. I know what you mean seriously, i think i feel sick, atleast she's gone for good, but tptb have wasted SO much time. if they were gonna mess with the mythos they should've messed with clark and lois, not clark and lana, what the heck,Lana Lang, timid Lana Lang who's future is to live in smallville just became a SUPERHERO.
l.m.a.o.
there are SO many things wrong with this show, its shocking, having said that i suppose this'll give Lois plenty reason to step back from her temporary clark-crush and pursue the red-blue blur and also allow writers to slow down clois to make it last all season9...

ReplyDelete
37. CLARK!!! YOU FOOOOL!!!!!!
in the words of Tom Welling himself, 'Clark...is an idiot. Lois is RIGHT THERE.'

ReplyDelete
38. I know a lot of people didn't like this episode and what it means for clark and superman, but i absolutely loved it. I always thought that Clark and Lana's love was just as epic as lois and clark and found it very hard to understand just how it could end. It may not bring closure to the characters, but it brings closure to me. How could the two of them be split apart if not for forces beyond their control and what a final defining moment for Lex as well. I'm looking forward to what's next and anyone who stops watching because of this one episode will really miss out.

I also think that it's possible to have more than one true love in your life. Clark's love for Lana does not take anything away from his love for Lois later in life.

ReplyDelete
39. This episode actually regressed Clark in ways after the show had actually shown him making progress. I understand the point the show was making by indicating that as long as Lana was in Clark's life, she would hold him back...there was evidence offered to point that out.

The inherent problem is that Lana Lang was always written as a morally dubious woman, and it was never really made clear to the audience why Clark would like her as a person, let alone love her. On the other hand, Clark was offered a lot of reasons to not trust her and to question every word she ever spoke. Clark was offered a lot of reasons to not even like her. He was offered reasons to pity here, but he was never given a reason to love her above all others.

Whoever follows Lana will always pale next to Lana. Lana was the love that could never be. That's a shame. She was not a good friend...she was fickle, jealous, petty and corrupted. Why would Clark be broken up over Lana leaving?

ReplyDelete
40. To everyone who is unhappy that Smallville has reverted back to showing Clark as a pathetic, indecisive and emotionally-stunted teenager, tell the CW http://www.cwtv.com/feedback/comments and the WB http://www.warnerbros.com/main/help/customer_service.html how you feel.

ReplyDelete
41. It was the most heartbreaking episode in the history of the show. It will also be the final episode I will ever watch. Clark and Lana's love story is the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed. I grew up watching the Superman movies and only knew about Lois and Clark, but as soon as this show started it was Lois who? Smallville has always had its own interpretation of the story and in THIS story it is undeniable that Clark and Lana are soul mates.Lois has never really fit into this version and it was never more obvious than in this episode. Requiem cemented Clana's love forever. It was absolutely breathtaking. It is such a tragedy that their story had to end, but I will never believe that it is over for Clana. They will one day find their way back to each other... the always do.

ReplyDelete
42. I have to admit, this was a great episode. I have never been a fan of the Lana storyline especially over the last few seasons and I am sure that many of you would agree that this season was great without her being a part of it.

However, this I believe this was a great way to send her off...

I understand and hear all of you perhaps die-hard Supes fans saying this is NOT right for Clark, but when has this show EVER really been 100% true to the Superman canon??

Those of you hating on the "whining/crying" Supes need to chill...this hopefully will set himon the right path and we will have Lois once again along with a Season 9....

ReplyDelete
43. I love this episode!! It opens up for more KK appearance!! Thank god there was no lois in any of LANA episode!

ReplyDelete
44. see heres the thing, lana lang returns in the mythos and clark chooses lois and when lana asks why he tells her its because Lois would never have pushed the red button *which is a missile button that lana previously pushes to save gthe lives of the ones she loves* he tells her lois woulda fought till the end.
THIS is the REASON he picks Lois Lane, Lois Lane represents this human purity of goodness when it comes down to what matters, thats lana's main fault-she gets seduced by darkness. I was hoping theyd open his eyes and show him this, and he'd choose to end it.
apparently superman isnt superman anymore, and clark kent isnt clark kent anymore.

ReplyDelete
45. Lana is the woman who has given, loved, and sacrificed SO MUCH for Clark and for the rest of the world (in her last episodes). Those who still can't see that are just in the DENIAL territoy. They can't accept Lana becoz they believe in the mythos, comics or whatsoever. Clana has brought a NEW FRESH air to the story of Superman itself. She's a part of the reason why Clark wants to be a human as well as a super hero. Clana's LOVE has SURPASSED clois love that will come next (if there is a possibility). I'm not really SATIESFED with this epiode coz I DON'T WANT CLANA to be OVER. But this is the best that we can GET. Though it SUKCS. When Clana's DONE,I'm DONE too. I don't wanna see the clois relationship that makes me sick. Clois is forced here. KrisTom is the BEST CHEMISTRY EVER!

ReplyDelete
46. This episode showed how LANA LANG was responsible for Clark finally becoming SUPERMAN. She pushed him to it. Without her love and HUMANITY, he would forever be ashamed of his abilities and never want to help the world. It was because of her "dear john" video that he finally decided to do something. It was LANA LANG who reminded him that it is never OK to kill someone, even someone as foul as Lex Luthor. Together they sacrificed their epic love to save the world. Would LOIS LANE have done that? HA! She's too self-centered to think of anyone but herself. Why would she even begin to fall for a "farmboy" anyway? The mythos has her falling for Superman - not Clark. The only reason she's even remotely interested in Clark is that he's a nice guy and he's THERE. LOIS fans should be THANKING LANA. Had it not been for her and her showing Clark that he could love someone, she would never have a chance. Clark would be a world-saving automaton, unable to risk loving someone. LANA has been and always shall be Clark's FIRST LOVE. Was in the comics, was on Smallville. Beautifully done, last scene beautifully acted by KK and TW. LOIS LANE was ALWAYS the second choice. No... third if you think about it. LANA - WORLD - LOIS. Yup... that works.

47. Pros:
Lana gone.

Cons:
Clark's character is the same kid he started as.
Lois Lane has been completely disrespected on this show.
This show is an embarassment to the superman genre and successfully shat on 75years of a legendary couple.
Lana Lang was human. not a superhero.
The writers changed the essance of the story to give a castmember a sendoff. they shudda jus gotten her a goodbye cake.
WTH.

ReplyDelete
48. LMAO. some ppl seem to think this is the way Lana Lang's story is meant to pan out. She simply IS NOT an important enough character to have pushed him into becoming a hero. She shouldn't have been turned into a superhero. its ridiculous and somewhat pathetic.
Maybe chloe becoems a hero too???
chloe being a hero i can handle, but LANA LANG? they just altered the mythos of superman for no reason whatsoever.
I mean HELLO why bring lois lane into the show in the first place if he's still madly in love with lasna? the point of Lois Lane was that he would be in love with her, not so she could pine over him-clark isnt realy ALL that, he's still a silly teenager.
as episode 14 shows. this show is an embrassment to its fans.
Lois Lane should ger her own show, screw this version of clark, he's pathetic.

ReplyDelete
49. wow, you shippers can battle amongst urselves, imo Lana Lang was used as a tool too turn clark off the idea of falling in love, and give lois a reason to be hesitant with her feelings for him, smallville's gotten a s9 remember? and i'm glad Lois Lane's character wasn't at all tarnished by jealous or anything-i'm so relieved she wasnt in lana episodes, lana and clark fans gfet to have their own ending, becuase ultimately, CLOIS's ending will always be better.;)
maybe not on this one show, but there millinos of other versions depicting the same epic love. Nothing can touch lois and clark.
I'm abit embarassed for the show though. Making Lana a superhero, showing love is Clark's true weakness? that was just lame and easy. I expected something more respectful as a goodbye to lana, something that shows character progress, we;ve seen lana sacrficie for clark, we've seen clark be an idiot and think he and lana belong together, it even cost him his father.
But to see them torn apart by forces out of their control is ridiculous. Its as if tptb are too afraid to let clark be seen as a bad guy by some of their fandom by ending it with lana...
pathetic.
DONT WRITE FOR FANS. WRITE FOR THE STORY.
Lois deserves better, its better for both of them not to be together right now, let clark learn his lesson. He almost kissed lois, when she returns those feelings wont just vaish for him, but they will have done for her, i have no doubt that chloe's gonna fill her in on the trainwreck that is clana.
GOODBYE LANA, HELLO CLOIS.

ReplyDelete
50. LMAO at some of the comments on here, LOIS LANE and CLARK KENT. that is the story. thats what its always been. Lana is part of the journey *thoguh she's overrated* LOIS LANE is his endgame. the show is about getting there, one whiney Lana Lang later, the show can now pick up the pieces and make CLOIS happen slowly and properly.
Hopefully lana leaving means the lana lang fans will leave too.;)
lets cross our fingers. I find them rude and disrespectful of 75years of mythology.

ReplyDelete
51. LOL, clark is such a plaer-do you fans remember this spoiler for episode hex??

From Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello: "In one scene from the ep, Clark stares lovingly into Chloe's eyes, but only because he thinks it's Lois. It's at that moment that Chloe learns how hard Clark has fallen for Lois. Um, awkward!"

ReplyDelete
52. we all know that clana won't change anything for as the comics goes, but it still was a nice twist to a all so boring story.to keep repeating that clois are the end game,it makes one wonder if this so call written in stone thing will hold true in the future.i would LOVE to watch and see how the writers is going to pull this clois love thing off after this episode and make the views beileve it after the love clana show eachother in this episode, but i don't do yesteryears(clois)do enjoy cloisers, maybe u will get back what u lost do to clana..PEACE

ReplyDelete
53. love how you ended that peace after dissing up cloisers...charming.
No. The love Lois Lane and Clark Kent have is entirely different and separate to clana. Thankgoodness. Cheesy, teen angst is not my thing, and yes, i too am interested in where tptb will take clois.
its just a shame they streched Lana Lang's story out over 8 years, they should have bought Lois Lane in Now and i think fans wud be less irritated. They hsouldn't have bought in such a great icon in s4 if they were gonna turn on the teen-angst fireworks, i mean come on TPTB, you're not writing for immature morons...well not all of us are.
We want to see clark GROW, not give up and feel defeated because he cant be in love with her, at this point it should have been him chooSING not to be in love with lana.
CLOIS's coupling is so amazing that its lasted and echoed through 75 years of history. i doubt smallville will ruin that-although its trying v.hard too. But trust me on this, its all clois all ahead from now on.
They owed it to the clana fans who watched smallville from s1 and got duped into rooting for clana as the otp.

PEACE.

54. I loved this episode. Not exactly b/c of what happened, but b/c Kristin and Tom did such a good acting job. I like Clana ALOT and so I started crying during their goodbye scenes. The actors did such a good job. I like Clois too and know they have to be end game, but I am glad the way the writers went with Clana. And all those non-clana fans should b too b/c now Clark and Lana can't be together no matter what, which is really said since they can't even really b friends if they wanna, but neway she can never come in b/t Clois again. Now Clois is free to do w/e without the fear of the writers bringing lana back to be with Clark. I thought this episode was VERY interesting b/c as a Clana fan it kinda of makes me happy that they will always love e/o and didn't part ways because they wanted too. And I am also happy that Lana is strong enough to take care of herself now. LOVED THIS EPISODE SO MUCH!!

55. ROCK THE MYTHOS!!

Best episode,heartbreaking, beautiful,loving...
The love that Clark & Lana share can't be broken or forgotten. It's a love that can face whatever comes, because that's true love.
Both sacrificed the love of their life to do the right thing, even when apart they will always be in each other's hearts.
Mythology means nothing,NOTHING compared to the love they share...

Clark & Lana are meant to be together

56. I guess Clark can now settle for bossfu*ker Lane. Kinda sad for him and tragic. :(

57. "Clark & Lana are meant to be together"? Disgusting. Lana has always been portrayed as a morally ambiguous character with an insatiable thirst for power and revenge. In the seven and half years that Clark pined over her, I NEVER understood why. Time and again, she lied to and manipulated Clark. Time and again, the big dumbass never questioned her unscrupulous behavior. When I first heard that they were bringing Lana back, I was optimistic that the producers would FINALLY have both of these characters recognize that they are incompatible and to leave things as friends. Instead, they chose to perpetuate the MOST DYSFUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP on television and have Clark literally CRAWLING back to her. Absolutely pathetic. This Clark Kent is a mere shadow of the mythic Superman and I don't see how Smallville can truly redeem his character.

Urgh, Lana Lang was the bane of that show, its no WONDER THEY LOST HALF THEIR RATINGS since Lois hasnt been in IT.

59. truly unexpected on how the lana storyline finished. kinda makes lois look like the second best, unless lana goes back and says idlu anymore clark and runs away. with lana done and lex "dead", this is nearly a good opportunity to jump off the bus guys. this season is totally series finale-ish! and i love it!

60. I loved the episode!
It had an interesting plot and the return of Lex.
"Even thou Mike Rosembaum wasn't there :( "
The clana thing really did not bother me, I used to dig it back in earlier seasons and then I stoped, but that last episode kinda made me remind of why I used to like them, Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk really have the drama/love story down to a T, as they should after eight years!

61. One of SV best episode. The writers and producers really out done themselves. Tom and Kristin was amazing. I'm sad that I will probably not see them grace my tv anymore. It was an amazing ride from Season 1 to 8. It was fun, but everything comes to end and I'm glad it ended with an open ending for Clark and Lana in the future.

Goodbye SV, I consider this episode the series finale for me.

62. Bye Clana fans!
i can see why ur tagging out now;)
this episode makes me feel like it shudv happened 4 years ago BEFORE lois came into the story. Lana lang isnt a bad character, nor is Lois, the ppl the fans shud bash aren't eachother or clana or clois, its TPTB for MAKING the characters what they are on smallville.

ReplyDelete
63. I liked this episode. It was sad to see them part but it showed Clark's true first love. Of course, they're gonna bring in the Clois now but there's always room for that first love and that's clana. As the two main characters for most of smallville, they did a good job and they deserved that kind of an end because they both are superheroes.

64. "its no WONDER THEY LOST HALF THEIR RATINGS since Lois hasnt been in IT."

You got to be kidding that you actually believe that Lois Lane brings in the rating? LAMO. Are you living under a rock or just delusional? You must only start watching the show, cause season 8 with Lois never really reached over 5 millions while Lana's episodes did. And you know what is even better, both Clark and Lana brings in over 6 millions viewers better than this fake relationship between Clark and Lois ever did. Ever since Lois has been on the show more people are even more turned off than the crappy writing on the show. Do your homework more before you throw nonsense around.

65. Kudos to Kristin Kreuk and Tom Welling for some great acting in this ep. That last scene was one of the saddest goodbyes I've ever seen. Also, for those that think Clark "regressed", what are you talking about? Just because Clark loves Lana doesn't mean he he took a step back from his destiny. It's a good thing for humanity that Clark Kent loves so deeply and enduringly. And Clark chose to give up his love to save the city with little hesitation - that's a very Superman thing to do. Smallville is its own entity - it's not the comics and it's not the movies (good thing or Lois wouldn't even be on the scene yet), so it's completely okay with me that Clark's great love is Lana Lang.

66. I was very upset and disgusted, but you know what? I thought of the bright side. It's rather hilarious if you think about it. Lana is a human kryptonite. Haha, and can't get near Clark. And why with all her super powers didn't she throw the darn bomb in outer space to explode?! Guess some of her brain cells were fried when she put on that suit. Maybe she really didn't want to be with Clark. She's perfect for Bizzaro now. Besides he "understands her". She says she'll "always" love Clark. After she takes off (once again, roll eyes) I think Clark mumble something yeah yeah I love you. Not "always". Maybe he said "loved", can't remember was forcing myself to watch until the credits. Eeewww! (Shutters) All behind us now...I hope....

67. I HATE YOU PS3. Thank goodness two of you are going to Melrose's Place, because that's exactly where the writing of Clana should have been. No business being in Superman!

ReplyDelete
68. Why are so many people fixated on mythology! I watch a story and base my judgment on what I see, not what it 'should' be. Were Clark and Lex suppose to be childhood friends? No. Were Clark and Lois suppose to meet before he became Superman? No. This has been different from the mythos since day one. For 8 years SV has depicted a beautiful love story between Clark and Lana. Not only 'should' Lois not be in this show because of the mythology, but because she has no place in this story. That is what I loved about the last 4 episodes. It was all about Clana, just like it has been since the pilot. Clana makes sense in THIS version. Clois does not. I was a fan of Clois back in the Lois & Clark show. If I wanted to watch a story where Clois was enjoyable to watch and made sense, I'd go watch that show.

70. This will be a very long post, but there are many things I have to say, and I swear that I do not bash any character in it! Ok just a little bit, but PS3 and the storyline are the ones to blame.
To anonymous 07 February 2009 22:05, I agree that the statement "its no WONDER THEY LOST HALF THEIR RATINGS since Lois hasnt been in IT." is wrong, but yours is too. Ratings have declined year after year, and season 7, with Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover, didn't have good ratings. So, knowing that the show is in its 8th season, that this season had to recover from a general bad storyline in season 7, that 3 regulars listed above left the show, that almost every show coming back in September saw their ratings go down because of the side-effects of the writers' strike, and despite all that, Smallville has managed to have ratings above 4 million almost all the time, being the first top-rated show of the CW, how can you blame Lois for making people turn off the show?? Furthermore, all the episodes in which Lois was were around 4,2 million in ratings while with Lana it was around 4 million; last week it was around 4,1 million despite three other channels showing repeats and this week 3,88 million despite trailers showing lots of Clana, Lex, and a hint as something big and tragic happening to Lana. So yeah, that really proves that people prefer Clana over Clois! Seriously, I've had some problems with Lana's character but I liked her character at times and did want a beautiful ending for her. Making her not a victim anymore, independent and strong was really good. But a superheroin who pushes Clark forward and shows him how to be a superhero after all she has done? There were other ways to make her look good... And for anonymous 22:26, Clark DID regress during Lana's arc. Yeah he sacrificed his love for Lana to save people, but he was forced to. He also saved people in legion, but because he was compelled to do so. During Lana's arc, he was busy saving or/and helping his friends: legion=Chloe, Bulletproof= John Jones, Power=Lana (she saved herself, but the whole episode he was busy worrying and looking for her), Requiem= Oliver. In the 8 first episode when working at the Daily Planet, we saw him save or help people willingly and investigating: Plastique (after the explosion and the meteor freak), Instinct (to prevent people from being muredered by Maxima), Committed (helping couples abducted), Prey (helping at the AoC after the attack and listening to police reports to fight crimes at night)...Furthermore, he didn't seem happy at all during the last 4 episodes, even with Lana; he always seemed worried, sad, despaired, frustrated or quite a blank look sometimes. The only times I saw him seem happy or have hope, or a kind of light in his eyes, was when he briefly spoke about Lois in Bulletproof, when he kissed Lana at the end of bulletproof and after they made love in Requiem...How many times did he however smile in the first ten episodes? I don't mean to bash Lana or Clana, because I used to love this couple and like Lana, but from season 6 on, I could barely stand their storyline and see Clark always mopey, and see Lana leave and come back every time to Clark who always almost succeeded in moving on. And if Lana was all for Clark and was his true love, why was he so involved in his relationship with Alicia in season 4? Why didn't Clark try to find out if she was really dead at the end of season 6 like he did back in season 4 with Chloe? Why didn't he try to convince her more to stay at the farm in season 7 after Bizarro's arc? Why did he give up on her and didn't try to look for her at the beginning of season 8 if he thought she was his only true love and soulmate? Why did he speak to Lois about finding his soulmate if it was Lana? Why doesn't he try more to find a cure for Lana after Requiem or uses Blue kryptonite? He also never questions Lana's actions, and IMO it is because he has faith in her, but also because he wants to keep the same image of her as in high school and knows that if Lana told her the truth it would make her bad actions true and he would be disappointed; for example one time when Lana was honest with him in season 7 about keeping a woman alive he was very angry and disappointed. Then Lana; Clark is supposed to be her true love, but she had no problem moving on with Jason and then Lex and seemed very happy with them at first before she finds out about their dark side, without bothering about Clark. Then she didn't mind lying to Clark, having secrets and an ambiguous behaviour. Because of that, Lana's arc would have worked better if not so much emphasis had been put on how great she is. She deserved a great send off after 7 years on the show and because the character has suffered a lot, but because of everything she has done, I just think it was a bit too much. I also have no doubt that Clark and Lana, despite their dysfunctional, rarely happy relationship, will always love each other and will remember each other as their first love, BUT they will move on and Clark will realize that there are other women he can completely trust, who will accept him for who he is, push him forward, and that it is possible to have a happy love life with a human, even if it is one that gets you on your nerves, lol. And Lois will not be second, because after all that has happened, it has to take a deep love for Clark to dare open up to Lois (and chase her!) because of his powers, alien origins, the thought that he keeps her safe by not telling her, because of Lana of course, of his fear to lose their friendly relationship if she doesn't feel the same, and because each one has always denied the idea of being in a relationship with the other, etc.So I ship Clois, not because of the mythos, but because I have always liked to see them banter, have a spat, comforting each other and giving advice to each other in a mature way and sometimes funny way and because I love emotional moments as well as comedic moments, I find Clois to be a great pairing for that.So for everything they represent I prefer Clois now, and I have started to view them as a couple at the end of season 6, but Siren sold them to me! But I have always liked KK and TW as actors, they have a great chemistry together, and they made the last scene in Requiem really touching. So I just blame the storyline if I like Clois better than Clana in Smallville. If only we could stop the bashing, and stop saying that one character is better than the other, that THAT character should not be in the show, that this ship or that character sucks, is crappy, is stupid...PS3 are to blame here, not the characters...I have sometimes been very angry because of the storylines, but I have kept watching because I like all the characters and the actors do a terrific job IMO.
Well, thank u to the people who will have succeeded in reading all this post, lol. And please people, don't give up on watching because you were disappointed with Lana's arc, I think (and hope) that in the next episodes we will be pleasantly surprised.

71. All I have to say is why the hell do they have to make Clark's life so tragic, haven't they ever picked up a comic book.

It's a shame that this show is on a network that targets the female demographic because I can't stand the show when it becomes Lana's Creek

ReplyDelete
72. you know what people, if you are truly SV fans, you would have noticed that this show is NOT about superman, it is about the boy BEFORE going to Metropolis and becoming superman, you know where and when he is supposed to meet your lois.

It has been a given fact by the previous directors and producers of the show that the central plot of this story is how the life that Clark led has shaped him into the superman in the future and that is that. among the themes that affected him is his relation to friends, family and FEMALES.

whether you like it or not, the producers, writers and directors did say that Clark and Lana's story is the CENTRAL relation that HUGELY affected his future.it is as STEVEN DEKNIGHT stated, "they are the emotional touchstone we all go back to". "it will always be about Lana and Clark till the end of the show no matter what happens."

Lana's deedd, as much as it hurts and pains me to think that she might not be able to touch him for a while, was heroic, it was the precise inspirational act to lead Clark to become the superman of the future whether you like it or not...

lois has never EVER, even in the comics, affected his decision or was there to shape his future into superman. bad for you to even become delusional enough to think this what of that, because if you are superman fans you would know that she met him AFTER his decision.

for us, TRUE SV FANS, this is another bump in the road for Clark and Lana. One day, they will overcome this barrier because what is the point of a show about a hero that shows that evil finally wins at the end.

and as Clark told Lana, " I WILL find a way for us to be together."

73. How about the epi where Clark was in Lex's mind so that he could find Supergirl and Lois Lane and then he got to see Lex's memory and saw Lang riding Lex?! LOL Priceless!!!! LOL LOVED it! :-)

74. I loved this episode. I consider it one of SV's best and it is one that I will remember for a long, long time. Thank you Tom and Kristin for your wonderful and heart-breaking portrayals of Clark and Lana. Thank you SV for the greatest love story ever told on TV.

75. "Lana's deedd, as much as it hurts and pains me to think that she might not be able to touch him for a while, was heroic, it was the precise inspirational act to lead Clark to become the superman of the future whether you like it or not..."

How exactly is:

trying to Kill Lex
stealing 10M from Lex
kidnapping & torturing Lionel
Sleeping with Bizarro and not telling the difference
Running to Clark's worst enemy and dating & marrying him
spying on Lex
Keeping secrets from Clark(after he told her his)

Supposed to inspire Clark?

The problem is to many of us this seems like a unhealthy relationship and we just want Clark Kent to move on in his life in an adult fashion, instead they give us garbage like this making the Lana character more important then she should be. I personally hate seeing Clark depressed all the time which seems to be 80% of the Clana relationship throughout the entire series. How am I supposed to think that is "true luv 4 eva"(as a Clana fan will write it).

Good think Slavkin and Swimmer are moving over to Melrose Place, they can take that angsty crap writing full of melodrama over there. This version of Clark Kent has to be the most pathetic version I ever seen, his childhood should not be so depressing, and Requiem was 1 more way to spit all over 70 years of Superman history. But hey Clana fans got there wish, they got to see Clark demasculated 1 last time

ReplyDelete
76. "lois has never EVER, even in the comics, affected his decision or was there to shape his future into superman. bad for you to even become delusional enough to think this what of that, because if you are superman fans you would know that she met him AFTER his decision"

Comic fans will also know that Lana is a red headed Cheerleader whose purpose ceases to be that important after he leaves High School. Lori Lemaris was more important in terms of Clark maturing to become a hero if you want to go that route(playing the mythos card).

It's not about who Clark should or shouldn't be with for me though, it's about making Clark Kent look the best possible that he can, and this show has done everything in there power to screw around with that and this Lana arc is one more way of showing us a Clark is a shadow of what he should be. Worst part of this arc is that for the first time earlier this season Clark started acting like how Clark Kent should(notice Lana was not on the show) and the second she comes back, boom Clark regresses to that unsure, self loathing idiot he always does when he is in her presence.

I understand Lana fans aren't really Superman fans and could care less about how Clark is portrayed, but there are fans out there of Clark Kent, who can live with changes to the mythos as long as it doesn't make Clark bad(which this past 3-4 years of Clana has done all to often)

81. what a rubbish episode. Good riddance to Lana (Hopefully she stays GONE. Thats all I have to say.

ReplyDelete
82. I personally like Lana. I don't like her nearly as much as Lois, but I still thought that she deserved a nice sending off. And I think that KK did a fabulous job acting in that last scene. However, as an episode overall, I thought it was pretty (incredibly) terrible. This past year we've been getting much better writing, and this episode the good writing was no-where to be found. The lines were cheesy, Oliver and Chloe were turned into pseudo-bad guys, and there was actual slow motion (with the overly dramatic music, please don't forget that) in parts!!!
Anyway, I'm glad that Lana got a nice send-off (oh, and for the people who think that she may still be coming back, I'm sorry, but KK has stated multiple times that they specifically wrote this episode so that she didn't have to return ever again--- as far as I know, her official contract is now done), but I think that the writers could have done such a better job making this episode at least tolerable for everyone watching.

ReplyDelete
83. To anonymous 08 February 10:37, I'm sorry if I misunderstood your post. But there are still people who think that Lois make people turn off, which is wrong as I explained in my previous post. She doesn't necessarily brings higher ratings, but at least she doesn't bring lower ones. Lower ratings may be explained by a bad trailer, by a storyline we have seen multiple times (like Clark and Lana getting together, again, and all the melodrama that goes with it), by tough competition, by a pre-empted show, by a lack of promotion, by a previous episode that people didn't like much so didn't want to watch the following one,etc....I think lower ratings are the result of several causes, not only because of one character.
To anonymous 13:58 I agree with everything you said. Although KK could come back at the end of the series as a guest appearance, but I don't think she will at the end of season 8 because the focus would be less on Clark, Chloe, Lois, Doomsday, etc. and she had several episodes this season in which she already was the focus, she may come back if there is a season 9. I also thought that many lines were cheesy, and I found a bit weird to make Oliver and Chloe look like the bad guys, but I'm glad that they brought up the subject of Sebastian Kane and I'm still interested to see how both of them will develop this « dark side ». I don't think it means they will turn into bad guys, it is just that they will find out (although Oliver already has) and think that sometimes the end justifies the means when it comes to helping people even if their actions are questionable. It's not a bad thing IMO, it shows this way that no character is perfect: Clark is a BDA, Oliver on a quest to vengeance, Chloe ready to kill people to protect people and her friends, Tess is a psycho because of Lex who manipulated her, Davis is...Doomsday, Lana is an ambiguous character and is hungry of power, Lois is bossy/stuck-up/rude/abrasive/ready to do what is necessary to break the story, Jimmy is....too kind?lol. He seems to be the only one who hasn't a dark side, although Lois' flaws don't really indicate a dark side either! Anyway, all want to help people/find the truth/bring justice (even Tess as she is like this because of Lex, and Davis who is a paramedic) but sometimes they go over the top to do it or they can't help it (like Davis/Doomsday); and that's why I personally like all the characters, because it makes them more endearing even if it can become annoying for some, like Clark the BDA!
So I'm looking forward to the next episodes!

84. i'm always shocked by how many people don't have anything better to do than decry the loss of a grand myth - geez - it's only Superman - not freakin Gandhi - it's just a story - besides, myths should evolve - if we just heard the same thing over and over again, it would be boring - it takes a while for people to fully mature into who they are supposed to be, even if they are Kryptonian and are supposed to be the savior of the whole planet or whatever - i think it's good they finally played this story out - now, Clark has to move on - what the heck were you people worrying about anyways? - Clark ends up with Lois - end of story - that won't change - haven't you fallen totally in-love with someone - your first true love - and, it didn't work out for some reason or another - and now you're with or married to someone you love utterly and completely - even though it isn't your first true love (who'll you'll always love and will never forget)? - how old are you naysayers? - 15? - GROW UP!

87. Oh yeah Lana married Lex because she wants to hurt Clark, um yeah,,, nedd to remind you that she married him under the threat of LIONEL and to protect Clark.

Bizzaro, well that is the most stupid execuse to portray Lana lowly, IF te producers didn't show the difference between Clark and Bizzaro, even the viewrs would NOT have noticed the difference in his act, because we all know that Clark does love Lana and it is not strange for him to rain affection and love for her... so drop this old execuse and try to think of something better...

as for Lana's heroic deed, I was talking about her last epsiodes... the woman did REPENT of her past actions and Clark even forgave her, so who r u to not let go of her past... lois wasn't an angel when she came, even the witch who possessed her said that lois's hair is tainted, that would be enough to say what is she...

she is obnoxious, nosey, butts in the worst time, vulgare and NEVER cared for anyone but herself... she is a powerful man thirst because of what her father did to her... these are not the traits of a stong woman, ON THE CONTRARY, she is weak and seeks to control to be staisfied...

she is the one who told Clark that she and Oliver are not the golden couple like Clark and Lana, yet she ceased the opportunity of Lana's abcense to bash her or ridicule what Clark had with her because she never knew what is the meaning to sacrifice and to love someone with all you are...and all because she wants him for herself now that he looks appealing with job and tie...

Heck , she even DARED to tell him how inappropriate for him to flirt with a woman in the elevator while let's not forget how she earned her job at DP...

DOES that even stand for a woman worthy of superman??? a woman who would have worked at the streets if not for Grant, courtesy to him, he hired her at the DP and saved her

so in other words, Cloisers call Clark stupid, retard because he can't let go of Lana when she went to lex, he kissed the woman he loves on her wedding day a.k.a Lana, and then tried later to get her away from the villain she'd just "forcibly" married who he feared would destroy her life and entire future. Bad Clark! It's okay for Lois to wrap her legs around the Daily Planet's new editor in his office because she has the hots for him, which earns her a promotion that she hides from struggling reporter Chloe, her cousin, by the way....but the future Superman should NEVER kiss the woman he loves, despite the desperate circumstances....unless that woman's name is Lois Lane, and she has suddenly awoken--after four years, mind you--to the reality that she's in love with this guy she always dismissed and told Chloe that he is NOT worth it while he sported plaid shirts, simply because he has a real job now, she thinks he looks great wearing a dress shirt and tie, and she doesn't have a new editor's or resident arrow-shooting bandit's bones to jump.

you prefer a person who slept with half the earth's men better than the woman who sacrificed being with him to save him, thus, the world in the future...

the show's lead character for seven seasons--having been given a hero's send-off and shown to still be the love of Clark Kent's life. you are angry and furious because it didn't end like YOU thought it should; Lana turning to pure evil and Clark realizing that he had never loved her at all, no matter how outlandish and untrue to the characters they've been watching for 8 years that would have been.

92. "This episode actually regressed Clark in ways after the show had actually shown him making progress.

Why would Clark be broken up over Lana leaving?"
_________________

Amen to that post (and, no, I will not bow to Lana). I just don't get the infatuation and overall obsession. To paraphrase Ledger's character in 'Ten things I hate about you': "you'd think she's got nipples dipped in beer or sthg". No basis for the worship... WHATSOEVER! And sorry but you don't (or rather sanely shouldn't) massacre a show's characters and the PROTAGONIST because a returning character (and no, the "main character" is Clark Kent - so far as *I* know) is back for an insignificant arc - and we have been made painfully witness how pitiful and overall useless this oddity of an arc was - because like in some misguided L'Oréal fashion "she's worth it"! *eyeroll*

One more thing though. Please, for the love of all that is holy (again, *not* Lana), EVERYONE, STOP throwing things like "star-crossed", "true love" and "in love" when referring to Clark and Lana.
They are as "star-crossed" as Romeo and the obscure girl he was obsessing over before Juliet got into the picture... Lana was his first love, nothing "true" or everlasting about it... and last but not least, while Clark may still 'love' Lana (as in 'affection' primarily kept alive at this point by a sense of duty and some sick fear of loneliness) he is not "in love".
Furthermore to me there was *zero* chemistry (unlike early seasons) throughout the whole arc/episodes.
[NB: having Clark grin after sex does not constitute happiness or a show that he was in love - I'll chuck that to the endorphins release. To me the rooftop "convo" in Power set an "agreement" to live in the moment not a love confession].

93. I am really confused as to why you people think that that was a beautiful sendoff for Lana Lang. I don't hate Lana in any way, but I thought what they did to her arc was absolutely ridiculous. Can they ever just let Lana be happy? Obviously not, since she left crying about Clark Kent for the 100th time. I thought it would have been absolutely beautiful if they made Clark and Lana friends by the end of Requiem...and that definitely would have been an ending I would have cried for.

95. honestly... if anyone has watched smallville from SEASON 1.. who doesn't see clana as SOULMATES!!!
Forget about the mythos and comics and watch the show as a show... without thinking about what is supposedly written for clark in the future. this version that smallville portrays has truly changed the mythos IMPOV in regards to his true love.

Watch Blank from season 4... he sees Lois and thinks who are you.. he sees Lana and falls in love all over again.

Smallville will always be about CLANA
Adventures of Lois and Clark and the mythos will always be about CLOIS

Depends on who's interpreting this famous story

So stop hatin on them

97. Are any of you Lana fans going to watch the show now that she is gone? Because the show will go marching on toward the end game which is Clark as Superman and not with Lana at his side. There are rumors the CW is talking to KK about being the lead for the new Melrose Place- so you may be able to get your weekly soap fix with her elsewhere- and maybe Smallville can return to being the story of Clark Kent before he becomes Superman. I don't give a hoot about who he is with- I just want Clark to quit acting like a panty waist crybaby. What a wussy! Yee gads- the whole final scene with Lana and ending up on his knees no less was beyond humiliating.

ReplyDelete
98. Lana and Clark are not SOULMATES in Season 1- they are neighbors- he has a crush on her and she notices him for the first time- THOUGH SHE IS DATING SOMEONE ELSE through the entire season! And she dumps the guy with a video message ( familiar?) while he is stationed overseas while serving his country. Oh yeah- Lana and Clark are soulmates from season 1 on.....the show should have ended when they graduated from high school with Lana and Clark going their separate ways. If you see the disfunctional back and forth of Lana and Clark as being the epitome of romantic love I pity you. First love always has a special place in a person's heart but seldom is first love the one that lasts. People change, ambitions change and this has happened with Lana and Clark. I just wish that instead of making her another super powered freak they'd let both characters grow up , say goodbye and let her leave with a solid friendship left between them. There is no closure and Clark has been left a pathetic wimp in her shadow. You are right this is not the Superman story- this is not anything recognizable as being the heroic tale of a stranger raised among us to help elevate us beyond our lives. Where is the hope? Where is the Clark Kent who cares about the world more than himself? Who is this selfish boy?

99. Although this episode had a few bright spots in it, they were completely overshadowed by the damage done to every character in the service of Lana Lang. Don't get me wrong, I was okay with Lana getting a nice sendoff, but to have her lecture Clark about morality, for Ollie and Chloe to be portrayed as means-to-an-end murderers, Chloe to be shown to be neglecting her husband, and Lois going completely unmentioned all made this episode irrevocably flawed. Clana could have been ended better and Lana given a better sendoff which didn't involve disrespecting other characters and the Superman mythos. Terrible episode.

100. "honestly... if anyone has watched smallville from SEASON 1.. who doesn't see clana as SOULMATES!!!"

I see Clark having an infatuation with somebody he doesn't know in the pilot episode. After 8 seasons it seems like he hasn't grown out of that infatuation because he constantly seemed to brush any bad thing she did under the rug like her poop doesn't stink. Even Lana commented in Wrath that Clark may love some ideal image of her as opposed to being in love with who she really is. This ending to the arc leaves me to believe that Clark is emotionally immature.

101. okay...you know what.ITS ABOUT CLARK KENT. Not LANA LANG or Lois Lane. LANA WAS PART OF HIS JOURNEY, THAT SHAPED HIM AND MOULDED HIM-BUT LOIS IS PART OF HIS DESTINY. HE CANT HELP BUT BE IN LOVE WITH LOIS as the journey goes on, Lana was someone he WANTED to be in love with, he gave so much to make it work and because of that the thought of him and lana not happening was unbearable-it took so much from both lana and clark in smallville. But keep watching and you'll all see the differences in loving someone and being IN LOVE with someone.
CLOIS IS THE OTP. WILL BE. HAS BEEN. SHALL REMAIN.
Smallville isnt just a show-its a TRIBUTE TO Clark Kent.
Lana lang had a large fanbase from day1 so tptb wanted to keep their show alive and dragged it on for 5 more seasons than it was meant to happen. People should really research the show and mythos before opening their mouths and typing their opinions on here bashing CLOIS and the not-as-vital clana, because the show is nothing without the mythos,it wudnt even exist. so can we have some respect for the entire superman genre please?

ReplyDelete
102. Requiem means death song. So basically they are burying the corpse that is Clana in this episode. Let's give Clark a life instead of kisses of death. Let's move on . . . to the mythos, because without it, there wouldn't be a Smallville in the first place. You'd be watching Kyle XY.

103. The episode was worst than awful. Im a Huge Clois Fan And Cannot Stand Clana ..But, what happened with Clana isn't what makes the episode terrible, IMO Its the fact that KK is Gone for good. Basicly, the producers took 4 episodes. made them mostly about clana and there relationship. should we, shouldn't we. Blah Blah, then This epi, and again they spent the entire thing forcusing on clana Knowing KK is probibly never gonna come back. Basicly, It was all for nothing. and thats what makes it so ridiculous, whats the point? and for the episodes coming up were getting all these spoilers on how clark's giving lois loving looks. and so on and so fourth. If I had Just Lost the supposed love of my life I wouldn't be giving loving looks to anyone. It makes clana look like a big joke..A big pointless joke

104. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU TWO!
What happened to clar growingh up as a person this season?? I mea come on-he's just got this girl and lost her for good and now will be making eyes at Lois? fans shudnt be at eachother's throats, we shud be at tptb's throats, both ships deserve BETTER.

105. This season had started out so well with major progress of Clark moving toward his destiny as Superman. Superman who should have no equal. Superman who has a high moral standard and code of ethics. Superman who doesn't kill. Superman who is not dark like Batman. Superman who is able to use his own brain.

As I said this started out well this season. Then we get sent back in time to season 7. Lana comes back...Lana who now is clean and pure...all past transgressions forgotten. Lana who has been brought back to finish up her arc that we had thought was finished with the "Dear Clark" video. Lana in search of power (like that is something new). Lana who suddenly is able to lecture every other character on the show about how superheros should act, about whatever she feels like, is able to kick Oliver's butt without the supersuit, then lecture him. Now she is back in black (how appropriate)to come back and see Clark. Clark goes from being a man moving on with his life back to the whiney angsty boy who fawns over Lana and does whatever to make her happy. How many superior lectures did we endure during this 5 episode arc? Poor Clark.

Now she succeeds in getting her super suit so she can be as powerful as Clark. What the heck. Let me reiterate this point...THERE SHOULD BE NO ONE AS POWERFUL AS SUPERMAN...sure there is Doomsday but he was artificially created on Krypton and "kills" Superman, but Supes doesn't stay dead. But that is another story. Now back to this mess. Now Clark has reverted back to his boyhood, and Lana has to tell him what to do and how to do it. She even jumps out of bed to go and play superhero. (I don't think I would have been so anxious to jump outta bed if I were in it with Superman). Now Lana's suit that she cannot take off absorbs Kryptonite...oh ok. Now she absorbs a crapload of Kryptonite and becomes walking poison to Clark. Doesn't that make her more powerful that Superman? She can kill him with her mere presence. Then Clark almost commits suicide to kiss her. Oh give me a break. Why don't you just have Lana sit on him and pistol whip him till you take away every single shred of Superman and spit on it.

I don't know how they are going to try to fix this, give Clark back his "super manhood". Perhaps they are just planning on sweeping these episodes under the rug like they never happened. I believe this is going to be the case. I wouldn't have minded the arc quite so much if they had not spit on Clark/Superman, Lois Lane, Oliver Queen, and basically every other character on the show. I am glad it is over. I just hope it stays that way.

108. This show is not about freaking Lana or the fail of Clana. It's about Clark Kent becoming the Man of Steel. I know most of you don't give a damn about that and wished Clark would never leave Smallville to stay with Lana. But get over. Lana is gone and so it's Clana. Thank God. 8 years is enough for that train wreck.

111. Hey Luke,

They're airing PREY, IDENTITY and BLOODLINE in the three weeks between the start of new episodes. BLOODLINE was the highest rated episode of the season -- Clark and Lois in the Phantom Zone with Kara's send off. Great episode. PREY was a great Clark episode. And IDENTITY was awesome -- Clark gets closer to realizing that he's a symbol of hope . . . and he saves Lois. :)

Great episodes to rewatch -- which I will NOT be doing for POWER or REQUIEM -- They have been designated unwatchable as has been most of season 7.

Onto the REAL season 8 and the REAL Clark Kent!

112. wow, guys, easy, clana OVER. Lol, because now that the crapiness is over, its gonna get BETTERRRR!!!
ROLL ON MARCH 5TH!

113. For me the saddest thing about "Requiem" is that in the world of Smallville Lana and Clark will never be able to meet again and share a tender hug, as ex-high school sweethearts.

I love all the Superman movies but the third and fourth (with Christopher Reeve) were not as solid as the first two. In the third movie Richard Pryor's talent was wasted with a horrid storyline. However, the brief revisiting of Lana Lang (played brilliantly by Annette O'Toole) and Clark Kent's high school affections when they were reunited for their 10th high school reunion, was the high point of the film. Annette O'Toole nailed the character of Lana Lang so perfectly, so sweetly, it was clear why this woman was Clark Kent's first love.

The Smallville train wreck that ended with "Requiem" has cemented that SV's Clark and Lana will never share a sweet moment as adults similar to what Christopher Reeve and Annette O'Toole gave us on the big screen with Superman III. They will never look back tenderly and relish their high school romance. They can't. Their romance has been reduced to ashes and vinegar in their mouths. That would explain what was happening to Clark's face with their final kiss.

A GREAT send off for Lana Lang's character would have created the pathway for a healthy, long term friendship between the two characters. Instead, the CLANA FAN-atics were indulged with a sophomoric cry-fest. SAD, PATHETIC and GROSSLY DISGUSTING!!!

114. Ouch, guess I'll just have to wait until march.
Until, please Clois fans (I don't "ship" anyone), please try and keep it toned down.
Seriously, it's not worth getting so worked up over, it's a TV show, and I am interested to see where the writers take the rest of season 8.

115. Such terrible regression in the characters, its embarassing to even say iwatch this show, s8 was doing SOOO better, but all it took wasone teenage-immature-overdramatic episode to destroy all the progress this season had made.
This ep had SUCH wasted potential!

116. *headesk* God, kill me now! How can someone who claims to be a Superman fan enjoy watching the superhero act as a complete idiot? HOW??!! Sorry, but it is beyond my comprehension.

ReplyDelete
117. You're right Luke, maybe we are overreacting a bit as it's just a tv show and we should wait to see what will happen in the next episodes; but it's really frustrating when we have been watching a show for so long and you get to see things over and over again...Of course like some said « if you don't like it stop watching », and that's exactly what I did for season 7 as I got tired of the angst, didn't like the Grant story, etc. Season 8 made me watch again, and the last time I was so excited for a season was season 5. I was glad with Clark being so pro-active, investigating and protecting people (and not only his friends and family), to see more Lois, Jimmy and Oliver and their interactions with each other, new convincing characters, much less angsty moments, etc. So after having watched the show for so long, then having a declining interest in it, just when you get a refreshing season and that the middle arc comes and seems to destroy many things the beginning of the season had built, it's more than irritating! And as a Clois fan (but also Clark and Lois separately) and former Clana fan, I'm bored to read comments about Lana being the only true love of Clark and Lois being unworthy of him and that many of Clois fans ship them only because of the mythos...Before watching Smallville I didn't know much of the mythos and even when I came to know about it I still preferred Clana over Clois, at least until season 5. And it's not the mythos who made me change my mind, it's the persona of the characters and their storyline. As for the « true love », Lana will always be in Clark's heart as his first love, but as many people in real life Clark will love again and this love won't be less important than the first. As for being worthy, Lois has many flaws, but the point is that they are not about killing, betraying, torturing... and she doesn't hide them, she's honest about herself and to other people, and she has always been there for her friends and family: for Chloe, Clark, Oliver (when Clark accused him of using for example), Martha and Jonathan, Jimmy, even Lana (she willingly offered and did talk with her for hours in episode 17-or 19? of season 5), and about her getting her job at the Daily Planet because Grant was into her, she herself said to him she wanted to be recognized for her competences and felt guilty of dating him because she was afraid of what people would say and since she has been hired she has worked very hard to deserve this job-how many times have we seen her being the only one still working at the DP at night? Furthermore, she won't change who she is to be with Clark, she will still be bossy and abrasive, but she will stay true to herself and not try to hide them to please Clark, while Lana, even if I'm sure part of the reason she put on the suit is to help people, thought she had to be Clark's « equal » to be with him and make him happy.
Anyway, from now on, we should stop looking at the past and look at the future, and I hope Clark will stop being a BDA and come back to the mature man we saw before the middle arc!

ReplyDelete
118. I completely understand that, but the lana arc is over.
This page is almost filled with hate about a series that you all claim to love.
Sure Lana is a pain in the ass, but she's history.
And as for Lois is second best now, what are you people? 4 years old?
You can love more than once, Clark will get over Lana again, and see Lois as more than a friend again (or something to that affect).

One thing I'm not sure about, where's Doomsday been?
He woke from his Crystal Chrysalis and then what? When on a sabbatical?

119. i can't believe all the bitching and bashing going on. yeah it wasn't a perfect episode but it wasn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. if you're going to stop watching just because you didn't like that episode you're not a real fan

ReplyDelete
120. Uh- this is not a beef about just one episode- I think there is a lot overflow from our emotions that have been put away since the end of season 7. A lot of people quit watching after the episode Wrath last year during season 7- and only came back when this new season started.

Everyone knew Lana was coming back- but I don't think people thought the show would backtrack to season 7 and everything that turned people off. Namely- back to too much Lana at the expense of Clark and everything else.

I skipped Power all together- and have skimmed this episode- have no interest in watching. I will be watching the repeats of Prey, Identity and Bloodline and look forward to a return to the real season 8. Lana is gone and hopefully this arc will soon be forgotten as Clark has to get back to business and take care of Doomy- he is not dead and gone and he is more dangerous than ever. And who believes Lex is really dead? Come on.....

Luckily I know exactly which episodes not to bother watching when I buy the season 8 dvds. So far I haven't purchased ones for season 7- I found only a handful of episodes from it to be palatable- Bizarro, Kara, Lara are the ones that stand out from the first part of the season. Back half was all good ( with the exception of the big Stride gum ad Hero)- I really enjoyed the Lana free spring. Michael Rosenbaum was brilliant in Descent and Fractured. Again- no Lana. I would have liked to have seen more with Kara and Lex. The Lex Supergirl relationship in the comics is always complicated but the writers strike got in the way of a lot of plotlines. Apparently Lana was set to go all super last season....it is a good thing they held that back thanks to KK's movie schedule or we might not even have this season.

125. Season 1 - soulmates or not soulmates...they do say that he fell in love with lana the moment he saw her as a young boy ...I just always felt that the love between Clark and Lois couldn't be demonstrated adequately without explaining why his supposed first love never worked out. Truth is now they will never be together, he will be heart broken, but the love that lois deserves will happen gradually and be better and longer lasting. According to real lore, there was a point where Clark neither chose Lois or Lana/and lana and lois both vied for Clark's attention. So much so that it nearly explains why he visits lana at one point and ignores lois in the movie where he gets affected by fake green kryptonite/ and why he also has to hold back with lois when she can't bear to be without him after finding out who he is....Clana eventually teaches him how to whether the storms or difficulties of his deeper relationship with lois.

Anyway...as some have said..Smallvile is about smallville...its about his youth/his development/and his relationships...in all honesty...i was totally confused when they brought lois in back in season 4. As some have said..they've already tackled 'the adventures of superman/lois and clark'....but if they had to bring lois into the picture...well.. I suppose they did it well, I mean, they have to have her resistant to Clark as long as possible...and now its more interesting to see how Clark deals with Lois...his game was always about a private joke with himself about Lois and her obsession with superman ..and teasing her with his 'supposedly nerdy ways'....

It is merely a different interpretation. If we have to be annoyed at anything..it was bringing lois in too early and having Lana marry lex...and the darned writers strike which just ruined everything...

However, its what keeps this beaten down dog continually glued. Perhaps I like this kind of stupid abuse of my fanship. But I also don't. I mean, what about Clark's trainng and the fortress of soliude? That's my other stupid subconscious worry.

Anyway I liked this episode as far as lana send off...mixd feelingsa bout her having powers...surely that kryptonite bomb could have been deactivated another way???

I think the acting was great - last scene...but yes I do also have those feelings niggling at the back of my mind...however this is certainly the way to force them to face reality...as lana said ..it was never meant to be ... and finally...Clark needs to see that he did everything he could short of wearing a lead suit and lead lipstick (lol) to have Clana..but he can be satisfied with knowing that it was good while it lasted..ups and downs...many lessons.... perhaps lana actually doesnt die and is still alive in the 31st century lol!!

we could go on...

ReplyDelete
126. ...With respect that the fact that different viewers like the different relationships more than others...I have only one question to ask you...

What DID Clark see in that woman?

ReplyDelete
127. Oh My God.
I've never read anything bout Smallville online, and here I thought everyone was a Clana shipper. I mean, Smallville is, in my opinion, totally different from the real Superman story. Lana has been part of the show since the very beginning, Lois was obviously not the main love interest for Clark. Furthermore, the chemistry between Tom Welling and Kristen Kreuk is undeniable, and Clark has always been in love with Lana.
I can't believe it's over. Smallville without her is meaningless. When he forced himself to go up to her and kiss her for the last time, it was the most heartbreaking love scene I had ever witnessed.

Lois has never been the first girl in the show. And she never will.
Clana forever!!
