Episode 8.19 - Stiletto - Synopsis

LOIS LANE IS A SUPERHERO — Lois (Erica Durance) believes that she needs a big story to secure her reputation as a star reporter but the red/blue blur continues to elude her. However, after Chloe (Allison Mack) is mugged, Lois steps in to fend off one of the attackers and uses the opportunity to pretend a new superhero, Stiletto, has come to town and is giving exclusives to Lois. Clark (Tom Welling) is concerned Lois will hurt herself pretending to be a superhero but after he is captured by thugs with kryptonite, Lois steps in to save the day. Kevin Fair directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#3T7469).

  1. This had better not be one of those "oh they just happen to have kryptonite with/on them" cases...

  2. ^ You can see the familiar green glow of Kryptonite when Clark is on the floor, getting kicked. Kinda cool to see Lois come to his rescue. I'm really looking forward to this ep!

  5. I CAN'T WAIT for this one!!!!! :-) I freaking LOVE this Lois Lane!!! And with the costume, I don't know, I think it's kind of a nod to Batgirl. :-) Heck, maybe we'll get to see a killer awesome choreographed kickboxing fight between Lois Lane and Tess Mercer while she's in that costume! :-) But yeah, it reminds me of Batgirl. And since this show is in the world of superheroes crime fighters, I say bring on all the costumes they can!!!! :-))))))))))

they tend to use lois for silly comic relief stories when she is capable of so much more

  8. Supertramp or SuperShoe is not a hero in my book. This is another example that Lois is nothing but an T&A character in this show.

  9. Love that Lois comes to clark's rescue. aww.

this epi sounds gr8. Love that clark's all worried.

after the snooze fest of eternal. . this should be fun.

  10. "they tend to use lois for silly comic relief stories when she is capable of so much more"

exactly. they use her to episodes like "stilleto" to show ( to the male fans mainly, lol) that she has good looks and a beautiful body, but as an actress she seems to be not capable to do much more than this. and that is bad, mainly for the actress.

  11. ^ Unbelievable. Erica Durance is, by far, the most talented actor on this show. She can flip between comedy, drama and action without batting an eyelash. In interviews, it's clear that she loves her character and puts a great deal of care into her portrayal of Lois Lane. Not to mention, Tom Welling absolutely shines in their scenes together. However, I am worried about "Stiletto" having Lois fabricate a news story...but I have faith that Durance will make it all awesome, as usual.

  12. Silly comic relief stories? Well, maybe it's because she's the only one to do comedy as well as drama. The thing is, no matter what she does, she's always criticized. Drama=Lana 2.0, comedy= silly, showing her body=she can't act...Last year Smallville was going downhill, and with the first episodes this season, Smallville had good reviews from many different sources and there have often been a focus on ED's great performance. As we have seen since season 4, she's not here only for comic purposes.
I like drama, but only drama would kill the show, it needs lighthearted moments or it would be too depressive.
And she dares to show her "beautiful body"? OMG what a wrong thing to do! I'm shocked *sigh*. No seriously, I bet that even if she wore sweaters all the time, she would be criticized for something else.
I just don't understand what some people have against ED. IMO she portrays Lois in a very good way, Lois is supposed to have a complicated personality and react vehemently when she's angry for example, that's how the character is and ED portrays her accordingly.

The personality of Lois Lane makes that she can't be appreciated by everybody. Lois has done nothing wrong this season and even since season 4; she's very passionate about her job and she would "do anyhting to get the story", even putting herself in danger. She's sarcastic and sometimes puts people down. But in fact she genuinely cares for people, she wants to advance her career but also fights for truth and justice. She's the only one in the show (apart from pa and ma kents) who hasn't killed, tortured, or betrayed someone. I can't believe that she is said to be selfish because she dares to think of her career. It's not often that we get to see strong and independent women on the show without them having powers, killing people or threatening them, etc. In the end, if Lois and Clark end up together, it's partly because they respect each other's devotion to their job, Clark as a superhero saving people and Lois as a journalist fighting for truth and justice.
I just would like that people stop bashing the actress. Is that so hard to do?

    1. TL;DR. 2. Bashing the actress? You got me wrong, I think Durance as Lois is great, it's just that I feel that all too often she is used as nothing more than a comic foil to the main character, when there have indeed been occasions when she is shown to be capable of more. Sometimes I really think Clark Kent is a faget...

  14. Erica Durance's Lois Lane is the only reason why I kept watching the show. Her take as Lois Lane, plus me holding out for Clark to fall in love with her, is what got me through all of the God awful angst with Clark and The Lang year after year. If the Lois Lane character were never brought into Smallville, this show would have been utterly un-watchable for me. And after this show finishes (hopefully after the completion of season 10), I hope she goes on to be a mega massive movie star!!! I keep hoping that both Tom and Erica cross over to the Superman franchise reboot!!!! Ugh! I'd be in heavenly bliss if that were to happen!!! Erica Durance ROCKS!!!

  15. To magnetic ocelot, sorry if I misinterpreted your comments. I understand your point of view, and I would like that Lois was shown in "serious" situations more often and not necessarily with Clark, she could be shown investigating and going undercover without doing weird or silly things, like in Identity, even if it's part of Lois' personality to act spontaneously and by doing so doing silly things. But I know I will love Stiletto despite the bit of silliness.
My comments didn't specifically target yours by the way, it's just that many people jump on anything Lois-related to make it look like it's wrong, silly, etc, so that the episode will be bad, and I'm tired of reading bad comments about the character and notably the actress so I tend to overreact. It's like Lois had to be perfect (if it's even possible) to please everybody and make her worthy of Clark, while since season 4 she's the one who hasn't changed (or for the better) and has stayed true to herself. There was a time when Lana seemed to be "perfect", and it was touching sometimes, but it became boring.
As for ED, despite her now having a big fanbase, I'm glad she doesn't go on the Internet anymore because of the comments bashing her on some websites, without any valuable reason.

  16. i really don't know what you want from lois. i so respecting her. she is my model for imitation. independent woman who fight for justice? what's wrong with that? do you know she is the reason i want to become a journalist? and no, i'm NOT just a little stupid child who lives in movie, i am just thinkin' to myself- isn't it wonderful to be the watchdog of the democracy? to aspire for justice? that's who i am and that's who lois is. so what so she was trying to fabricate a story. that's just tell us that she is just a person!!! like me and like you!!!do you want to say to me that you haven't lied ever?! oh please, liars that's how i call you
and erica- she is just a perfect actress!! what do you have against her?!!? i am a feminist girl and i don't think she do something wrong..

  17. Okay, why does Chloe have to be seen as weak (victim of a mugging), just so Lois can be seen as strong? We all know Chloe could fight back. She even fought off Lana back in Season 2 or 3, in 'Delete'. And now she's become a much better fighter. This is stupid! There better be three or more guys doing the mugging.

I want to see Clark saving the day. Not Lois.

"they tend to use lois for silly comic relief stories when she is capable of so much more"

I agree. I love her more serious side. I think ED is great with that. The only time I like silly Lois is when she's sniping at Clark or someone else. It's time for the writers to give us better Lois storylines - ones that challenge ED. Because, although I prefer Chloe way more, I think ED could pull it off and be great. One of my favorite Lois episodes was when the kryptonians were in Smallville after the second meteor shower and Lois was looking down on Smallville. And how she was trying to help Martha and Jonathan.

"and I would like that Lois was shown in "serious" situations more often and not necessarily with Clark, she could be shown investigating and going undercover without doing weird or silly things"

I agree. Of course, I also want to see Chloe with Clark when he has to use his powers. But reporters Clark and Lois would be great.

"i really don't know what you want from lois"

Damn right you don't. But how about for her to not be used time and time and time again as the comic foil to Clark who is ignorant of his powers and acts like SHE could kick HIS butt?

"what do you have against her?!!?"

    ...duuuuuuuh whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
