Will Chloe Survive?

Smallville has taken a dark turn this season, especially with the introduction of Doomsday (Sam Witwer), who is the only DC villain able to kill Superman. That would seem like a rough break for Tom Welling, except that Clark Kent is not one of the two characters kicking the bucket in the season finale.

Fellow fan favorite Chloe Suliivan (Allison Mack), on the other hand, has been considered very much in the line of fire, especially since producers tell us next season's stories line up closely with the DC mythology—the same Superman mythology that does not include Chloe Sullivan.

However, there's hope on the horizon! Executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders teased some upcoming storylines for Chloe that could land her in the Watchtower next season, instead of a grave.

That's not the case for two other characters on Smallville who will be saying goodbye for good, and Brian teases there may actually be a third death. Plus, find out why Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark fans can expect to squee in the finale...

Are Clark and Doomsday throwing down in the finale?
Brian Peterson: It's what everybody has probably been watching for the whole season. There will be a big throwdown between Doomsday and Clark.
Kelly Souders: Clark meets his match.

How does Chloe come between Clark and Davis?
KS: I think Chloe takes a very integral part in trying to keep the two fated nemeses apart from each other. It's hard; trouble just seems to find Clark Kent.
BP: We want in the audience to the question is Chloe doing this because she's starting to fall for Davis, or is Chloe doing this because she's really protecting Clark? I think we walk that line pretty carefully, I hope.

Let's talk about the major death. Is it two people dying or maybe one is just leaving the show?
KS: I will say it's Smallville, anything can happen, but I don't expect a dry eye in the house. It's not one of those things where someone just goes down and walks out of it the next minute, unfortunately. There's a lot of doom in Doomsday.

Many of the fans are worried that Chloe is dying since she is not apart of the Superman mythology.
KS: It's a scary future for Chloe Sullivan because you never know what's going to happen because of that exact fact.
BP: She has put herself in the middle of harms way this year.
KS: All we can say is her tragic arc has a very tragic ending this year.

So it could be either Chloe or Davis dying?
BP: Well there are two deaths, it could be one or the other, or both.
KS: Both or someone else could be thrown in that mix.
BP: The other thing I will just say for the people who watch on a deeper level, there's a metaphorical death that happens on the show as well, so hopefully people can dig deep into their intellect and psyche and have fun with that.
KS: Actually all of [what happens] is in order to line up with the DC mythology, we'll throw that out there too. Obviously we created our own version of Doomsday on the show, but ultimately, everything we do in the finale is in order to line up with the DC mythology.

So Chloe may never really find love then?
KS: Chloe's love life is just one of the most doomed elements in television history. She has not had a lot of luck in love and I'm afraid that in the finale, she doesn't get much luckier. Maybe someday, you never know. I'll just tease that.

Heard that! Chloe could be sticking around! How about Clark and Lois' love life?
KS: For Clark/Lois fans, I think they will be having many fits in the finale. We just watched part of it cut together and I have to say there's one of the most quintessential Clark/Lois moments in the finale. It's so good. They have such great chemistry.

Is there anything in the finale that's really going to shock the fans?
BP: It's a pretty heavy season finale, but I think it will launch a really great season next year.
KS: You're definitely going to see the Justice League in a way you've never seen them before. Clark and Oliver's (Justin Hartley) relationship is going to really be pushed to the brink. I think it's going to be really shocking for the fans to see the season finale. Clark definitely emerges in a different place than he started the season in. [Next season] he has to overcome, he has to be Superman.

Just out of professional curiosity, does that mean we'll see Tom Welling in some spandex tights next year? I know the fans really want to see that.
BP: Probably not as soon as you expect, but you never know. The one person who doesn't want to see that unfortunately is Tom Welling, so that's a bigger conversation.

Has there been talk of other members of the Justice League crossing over in the finale or next season?
BP: We started what will hopefully be a new focus of the show that we'll be bringing in allies for Clark next year. We had a lot of DC villains this year and a lot of DC heroes and we're hoping to continue that into next year. We teased a little piece of Chloe and her arc and how she might play a role in that next year.

Okay, heard it again! "Next year!" She must survive! So as far as next season, will Clark be running around saving the rest of the world and not just Metropolis next season?
BP: Clark may have some significant obstacles in his destiny next year. It may be the darkness before the rise of Superman. He's going to face probably his darkest hour I would say. He really was on a trajectory this year, but he's made some decisions that put him down a different path.
KS: He's going to be paying the price for some rather large mistakes from the finale.

Alright, now that you know the scoop on the finale, who do you think is biting the dust? Hit the comments with your guesses!

  1. I am glad to see Chloe (probably) isn't going to be killed. At least that's what I gathered from reading this. A lot of people don't like her character anymore, but that shouldn't take away from the past 7 seasons. Blame the writers, not the actress!

  2. I'm more trying to get my head around the metaphorical death I can't imagine what that could entail.

  3. I'm so ready for Chloe to go. I used to like her character, but now nearly every one of her scenes sucks the life out of the episode.

  4. Chloe is one of my favorite characters and I hope she doesn't die... but I am not sure I trust the writers if they gives hints that she will live it makes me think she will die....

  5. now i'm even more convinced that chloe really won't die, only the name "chloe sullivan", and in next season she'll be "Watchtower" = metaphorical death.... next season sounds awesome! :)

  6. She's going to be the AI in the ISIS Watchtower computer or something like that. I'll bet that remnants of Brainiac being in her allows that to happen.

  7. i really hope chloe survives because her scenes are always my favourites.

my favourite charater since season one. I hope she will stay

  8. We now know that Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Oliver will survive the season finale. They're teasing Chloe's fate with two scenarios. Tess and Davis are definitely the ones to die. I hope they don't regress Clark back to what he was in seasons 5-7. They need to forward him to the next phase of his journey. I still believe that he will fly in the season finale.

  9. I think maybe Chloe will die but as someone said she will be back as watchtower, like her brain will be used to run that computer or something, but Allison won't be back as Chloe.
I love Chloe, but now I think it might be the right time for her to leave. With Lana gone for good and Chloe's death maybe Clark will finally rely more on Lois since he doesn't have his best friend and ex-girlfriend anymore. And maybe on the expense of Allison we'll get more Erica episodes next year. :P

  10. jimmy can die. i'm so sick and tired of this charater.

They really could kill him. Smallville is showing us that they are different of another movies and another tv shows already made with this theme, so Jimmy can be the one to die, because his lack of presence won't be missed. They ruined the character. so elinating the "jimmy mistake" can be a solution.

I bet the metaphorical death on clark, because we all know that he can't die, because he is superman. and after the doomsday battle, we will come back stronger.

And the other Tess i bet on Tess. I like Tess but her story can end here. She hasn't much more to tell.

  11. There is so much hype around Chloe just to throw people off. I'm telling you, she's not going anywhere. Remember last year how long it took to iron out her contract, I'll bet part of it was to keep her as the leading lady for season 8 & 9. She's not going anywhere though I wish she would become a supporting character again. I don't know about any of you but I'm more than ready to see Lois Lane become the leading lady of the show.

  12. chloe and lois can continue to be both the leading ladys of the show, because to see another " another adventures of lois and clark" all over again no one wants that, i think. and charaters like chloe and justice league, etc etc are the ones who can allow the producers to create different storys and show the fans that they are able to create a new pact, an independent one without falling in the mistake to copy another projects with the concept lois and clark.

to all the clois fans, you have to calm down, because this romance will happen. it belongs to superman story. so sooner or later, it will happen. but that doesn't mean that the rest of charaters have to leave.

the story of lois and clark can be told with another charaters storys in complement with the main couple.

  13. I hope Tess lives! She is so much fun to watch! I love her acting style! LOVE the sinister look she gives with those eyes! Besides, I don't know about any of you but I'd LOVE to see her and Lex as a team (should he ever return for an epi). I can totally see the two of them taking our young Superman and Lois Lane down!

Chloe fans, don't worry, it's all just a bunch of hype. Chloe is not going anywhere. I myself am hoping they kill her off but it just isn't going to happen. The producers will never let an amazing talent like Allison go. I'm not that big of a fan of her character anymore, but the actress herself, she really is an amazing actress. She's not going anywhere.

  14. Having Lois Lane as the leading lady could never make this show another " adventures of Lois and Clark". That show was a fun, campy take on the characters. This is has a much darker, ominous feel. Plus the actors are totally different.

It's time for Lois Lane to be the leading lady.

  15. this season in particular chloe has become annoying, she so reminded me of lana of the past seasons, of being annoying.

  16. Someone suggested Jimmy. Jimmy is the one charactor along with Lois that is NOT going to die for sure.. Jimmy Olsen is a DC charactor and as they said they'll try to stick up with the mythology ;) I really hope Tess is the one and the other .. I dunno

  17. i love chloe, shes my favourite character... i wish her and clark would get together instead of stupid lois (im not a lois fan - but i like erica durance).. anyways i think chloe needs to survive!
